  1. Strawberry Tree Cookery Classes

Strawberry Tree are offering a range of hands-on cooking classes offering you a uniquely delicious experience to inspire your taste buds and connect with others through a shared love of food.

Some of our favourite experiences taking place this month include a Seafood Paella, Olive Oil Tasting & Lunch event. Given the current weather, being whisked off to Southern Spain through the rich taste of Paella sounds wonderful so we cannot help but be drawn into this class!

Or if quintessential recipes are more your style, check out Puff Pastry Adventures with Maggie Richardson, hosted by Strawberry Tree founder & head chef Giselle and Maggie Richardson a Dorset traditional baker known from the Great British Bake Off. We all want to learn how to make that perfect rough-puff pastry and now the opportunity has arisen! Throw in the ‘hands on’ creation of Millefeuille & Tarte Tatin and you’re all set to recreate the classic’s at home.

A whole mix of wonderful experiences are offered all year round so if you did miss out on a spot in the classes listed above do not fret, all of their yearly classes can be found here, to give you that wonderfully foodie inspiration!

2. High Grange Fire School

Set in the rolling Devon hills, High Grange offers a wonderfully autumnal setting to learn new skills and eat incredible food. The canopy of the surrounding forest, tinge of wood smoke and fresh air will accompany you and offers the perfect experience day this season.

Some of the amazing fire school events this autumn are ‘Deer in a Day’ and ‘Christmas Fire School.’

This is the perfect time to give ‘Deer in a Day’ a go, as this is a seasonal course whereby you cook and eat a whole deer, learning skills from butchery to curing whilst also enjoying your work alongside autumnal produce and foraged treats.

Or if you want to get ahead the Christmas Fire School will allow you to enjoy cooking whatever the weather, and equip you with the skills to make this Christmas one to remember!

3. Marine Theatre

This is the perfect season to catch a play, screening, stand up event or musical gig at Marine Theatre who host such a far reaching and vibrant programme! Located right on the seafront overlooking Lyme bay it offers a unique setting to residents & visitors to Lyme Regis who wish to explore the entertainment & arts scene.

As the nights draw in and the air chills what would be better than warming up through the sound of laughter at the ‘Lyme Regis Comedy Club’ or if you fancy exploring a musical avenue, get ready to stomp your feet as ‘Blazin’ Fiddles’ fills the Theatre this autumn.

If you’re heading to the theatre to catch a show, we highly recommend heading over to The Oyster and Fish House who are offering a special 2 or 3 course pre-theatre menu (from £21) to set you up for a wonderful evening in Lyme!

4. Malthouse Gallery

Set in the courtyard of the Town Mill in the popular Artisan Quarter of Lyme Regis, the Malthouse Gallery offers a unique setting to explore the work of both established and emerging artists for free, offering you a special chance to view, enjoy or buy some wonderful work. Although open all year round, there are some incredible exhibitions this season, with one of our favourites outlined below:

This month we are particularly looking forward to the Embracing the Elements series by four West Dorset Artists. Given our location on the Jurassic Coast we have a close relationship with the elements, especially the salt-tinged aspects! So we greatly look forward to learning about how each artist embraces the elements and their creative journeys.

5. Bonfire Night

Visiting Lyme on the 2nd November? The annual fireworks display is not to be missed, as the spectacular display whizzes to life above The Cobb. Settle down on the beachfront or head on up to Langmoor gardens which offers you an unbeatable vantage point as the sky pops and bangs above the sea! See below for some incredible pictures from last years event by Dorset’s award-winning photographer James Loveridge Photography.
