I. Start at the clock tower, go behind the Cobb Fish Bar through the metal gate (no way through traffic). Continue behind the modern, black museum and past the spiral steps to the Marine Theatre. Read the Jurassic Coast information table whilst looking across to Golden Cap and beyond. Continue along the New Wall where there are built-in seats along the way, past the slipway. As you approach the end of the new wall, go down the steps onto East Beach and all the way beneath Black Ven, until you reach Charmouth Beach. NB. sturdy footwear required to navigate the two rocky outcrops.
2. When you arrive at Charmouth, go up the wooden walkway past the grey beach huts on the left. Go around the corner to
find the cafe and Heritage Coast Centre. There are car parks immediately to your left and right. You will find a loo and extra car park at Heritage Mews along Lower Sea Lane. Walk on past the Tennis Club on the left. Go left at the main road T-junction, signposted left to the Tourist Information Centre with plenty of black signage.
3. Go up the main street, past the Royal Oak pub. Just as you round a right-hand bend, after Higher Sea Lane, take the left-
hand tum at the bus stop. Immediately take the right-hand fork at the site of the Old Pound (a triangular patch of grass with bench). Go up the fairly steep Old Lyme Hill, past the letterbox and further on, the reservoir on your left.
4. Nearing the summit, follow the coastal path diversion sign and black arrow right, through a large gate onto a gravel driveway. It is signposted Green/oft House & The Gatehouse and has a public footpath sign. Veer right between these two houses, then leftish. There is a sturdy stile and metal gate to the right of this. (Larger dogs may need coaxing through the stile gap). Walk over to the right-hand corner of the field you are in, making your way towards two wooden posts. Follow the track down a short way to the yellow sign and stile on your right, down the steps to the path adjacent to the roundabout.
5. Go left at the roundabout, up the hill below Fernhill Hotel gardens. Before you get to the sign up ahead for A3052 Lyme
Regis, follow the yellow coastal path diversion sign left to Lyme Regis, runnirig alongside the hotel and up through Langmoor Coppice. As you come out of the woody way, you will notice a ''Welcome to Lyme Regis Golf Club" sign advising you to walk straight ahead between the white posts.
6. Turn left out of the golf course, onto the A3052. Walk just around the first large, right-hand bend until you see a wooden
bridleway sign opposite, near a yellow and black post. Cross over the road (note traffic can be fast) and continue down the tarmac lane flanked by a wooden and wired fence to the side of Dragon's Hill.
7. Now the lane goes around to the right towards Penn, but go straight down through the gate ahead, into 2 large fields
beyond, Sleech Wood to your right. At the very bottom go through two gates and towards your left through a woody copse
by Uplyme Mill. Cross left over the bridge and through another gate, which will find you following a track alongside the river. Cross over Colway Lane at Horne Bridge, continue along Windsor Terrace, with Higher Mill on your left and cross over Woodmead Road to Jericho. This opens into a road which winds down to Coombe Street at the cross roads. Taking a left tum and going past the cottages and Fossil Museum, will take you back to Broad Street opposite the clock tower.
