The Best Places to Eat in Lyme Regis
Aside from the beautiful views of the Jurassic Coast, Lyme Regis also offers an incredible selection of eateries that cater for everyone. It has such a wide variety of choice that we’ve put together a list of the best places to eat, divided into two sections; Restaurants and Cafes & Takeaways. We adore the fact that Lyme is such a foodie heaven, whilst still being able to provide something for everyone; fresh seafood, cosy pub grub, Michelin Guide or high quality local produce, you’ll be spoilt for choice!
We are also extra spoilt here at Lyme Regis Stays as so many of our stays are within a few minutes walking distance of all these incredible places, allowing you to relax and indulge yourselves without taking the car for a spin.
Our top Restaurants
Millside
Sent in the wonderful Artisan quarter, Millside is full of delicious delights! With a focus on fresh & local ingredients, Millside aims to give you that coastal kick centred around scrumptious seafood. Its beautiful setting with an emphasis on relaxing and enjoying local produce is the perfect place for a get together, with extra bonus points for being a few minutes walk from all our stays on Sherbourne Lane!
Organic produce lies at the heart of Millside, with their hand-made breads and pasta alongside their fresh seafood ensures you have a delicious experience, their most popular and classic dishes - such as oysters, lobster and crab are certainly worth visiting for on your trip to the Jurassic Coast.
2. Lilac
Featured in the Michelin Guide, Lilac is perfect for romantic meals or a special treat. Set in a 400 year old cellar on Broad Street the intimate but cosy ambiance allows you to soak up the rich selection on offer, allowing you to truly appreciate the best of seasonal & locally produced treats.
From freshly foraged produce to handmade cocktails, the ingredients pay wonderful homage to the Lilac chefs, with each dish being beautifully presented. If you’re in Lyme to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, Lilac is the place to go for a memorable experience.
3. Strawberry Tree
One of our favourites, Strawberry Tree offers a wonderful range of tapas and unique wines to transport you away to the Atlas Mountains in Southern Spain. Not only will you love the tapas selection but the atmosphere is arguably the best in Lyme, so redolent of native Spanish restaurants that you truly feel like you’re there!
Not only do they provide an incredible dining experience but they also offer ‘hands-on’ cooking classes, highly reviewed and noted as one of the most relaxed & passionate classes around, what better way to spend a Sunday than delighting over wonderful food with like-minded people!
These only represent a handful of our recommended restaurants in Lyme Regis, to explore even more choice head on over to our Eat Rest Play page to discover more delicious delights, you’re sure to find something for everyone!
Our Top Cafes & Takeaways
1. Townmill Bakery
Our favourite spot to sit down and enjoy a wonderful breakfast/brunch before a busy day. It’s a lovely sourdough bakery, café and deli right in the heart of Lyme Regis, only a few minutes from our properties on Sherbourne Lane. We couldn’t agree more with it’s ‘Good Food Guide, Local Gem 2024’ award, with a relaxing aesthetic, friendly staff and generously delicious portions it’s a firm favourite within Lyme Regis Stays.
We especially rate their extract coffees and both the Baker’s Breakfast (homemade mixed beans!) and their classic cheese & ham toastie. The menu is filled with locally orientated dishes and make the perfect start to a day of exploring Lyme Regis!
2. Whole Hog
Set on Broad Street this pop in & takeaway spot offers arguably the best roasted pork & crackling or a roasted thyme chicken & stuffing and gravy roll you’ll ever have. Definitely an indulgent treat but it’s worth the trip, these filling rolls have fuelled us through many a hike and have been perfect on every occasion.
If you’re after the best-of-the-best family run local spots the Whole Hog is for you, with a small (but filling!) menu, this has allowed them to perfect the art of rolls, doughnuts and coffee. For all the coffee lovers out there, they both serve & stock Monmouth coffee, an incredibly smooth blend sure to fuel you for your plans for the day. Although if you’re after one of their doughnuts, you’d best be quick, as they are prone to sell out early, but they are 100% worth the earlier wake-up!
3. Poco Pizza
Poco Pizza is the perfect spot to experience a taste of Italy by the sea. Located beachside, its warmly decorated restaurant has beautiful views over the bay, with the best spot being on their outside terrace!
The roman style pizza is made fresh to order, from delicious ingredients sure to whisk you off to the Italian Coast, especially with the sound of the waves drifting in from the beach. It’s always worth exploring the special of the month as they do some amazing collaborations with other local businesses. Perfect for couples, families, get-togethers and everything in-between, Poco Pizza will be sure to welcome you with a smile, although do book in advance as it is a popular spot in Lyme Regis!
